2011 is coming to an end in 4 hours and what a year it has been. I was blessed with a good year and I'm really thankful for all that. I hope 2012 will be the same or at least, not get worse :)

Resolutions? I don't make one so I'm not gonna make one for 2012. I just try to live day by day and adapt to the situations.

2 more weeks and it's gonna be the final semester of my 4 years degree. How time flies... 3 subjects remaining and also one of the toughest ones. Gonna end the final year with a bang, literally on the head ;D Then there will be lots of greasy days ahead... Oh...how I missed those days. Haha...

It's somewhat true that the first few months are the honeymoon period. It's all sweet, passionate, and dreamy. After that, it somehow just fades a bit and things just become more real. All that passion and sweetness did not die but it is kept for a more meaningful moment to bring out the sweetest and most passionate feeling. Too much good is not always good but when used at the right moment, it is always amazing. One thing that will not change is the feeling.

There were times when I am in lost of words about something or just not saying a word at all for a period of time. But, that's just being myself. I do not want to put on a mask ;) While being for who I am, there are some minor tweaks here and there because it's not always about one person. In short, give and take and compromise. Keeps both side satisfied at the end of the day.

Year 4 Sem 1 result came back good. Wait, it's better than good although the amount effort didn't seem to reflect the result.

Looking at the CGPA, it made me wondered, could I nick that first class honors? Doesn't seem like a huge gap to make up for but anything could happen (fingers crossed). It's definitely a relief to achieve that.

Then that set the mind in its own world. Questions after questions. Many unsolved, many still unknown. Looking at the staggering amount of repayment already made me wonder, "Can I do it?". Self-confidence in question. What's left of the salary after repayment? And it goes on...

It has been days already.

It's impossible to keep everything "up" or at a high momentum. There will be a period of constant steadiness and decline (which I hope will not happen).

Effort has been put in constantly even though some will not work. The outcome may not turn out as expected but I hope the process will be noticed and appreciated.

Only time will tell although it's too early to tell. Chances only come once.

Whenever I see it, it reminds me of how much I hate it. Shit happened and that's why I hate it even more than ever.

I understand the need of it in certain circumstances but is there a need to go overboard till you lost control of yourself? Yes it maybe fun and some might even look at it as cool but it's all only short-term temporary joy. A really really short-term joy and a damn long-term pain and suffering.

I hate it and I hate even more to see people around me that I care so much falling into it or already fell for it.

The last time I blogged? Nearly 3 months back. There were a few times I wanted to blog but the tiredness just got the better of it. This new semester (which is already in week 9) is a lot more hectic than last semester. 2 competitions that are gonna be held at the same month, there isn't just enough time but we managed to pull it off.

Shell Eco-Marathon 2011.
Started on this project since January 2011 and it was an extremely long process. Many ups and downs were faced. Throughout the whole process, I was able to pick up some new knowledge and understood the manufacturing aspects. The team was very lucky to have an amazing lecturer to guide us and he is by far the most dedicated lecturer I have ever seen. While other lecturers might be at the workshop once a while, he was totally different. Any free time that he has will be spent at the workshop, giving us advices and helped out on some stuff. I guess I can say that without him, we wouldn't have made it this far.

Bosch Cordless Competition 2011
While SEM 2011 had around 6 months, this competition was a lot less. Given a budget of RM12,000, we have to produce the car within 3 months. It will not be a problem if it was only one competition but since we participated in SEM 2011 as well, we had to divide the jobs and do bit by bit everyday. Upon returning from SEM 2011, we got back to work immediately to catch up on time. Things did not go smoothly especially on the powertrain aspect. We didn't pass the first round of test and had to return to fix the problem. In addition, we were given a 5 seconds penalty. However, today the go-kart was up and running and we passed the test. So, hopefully things will go well from today onwards and who knows, we get to go Beijing?

That 2 projects took up most of my time and made me missed a lot of classes. After the competitions end, there will be no rest time as it is time to catch up on studies, especially on the assignments and final year project. Getting good GPA for the previous semester will mean nothing if I cannot maintain it. Over the past few months, something good happened and since then, I did not look back. Hopefully things will work out well :)

Green Building Seminar

UTAR ASHRAE Student Branch's very first Green Building Seminar was held on the 23rd April 2011. Proud to say I was part of the committee and the seminar went well.

I was assigned as the "Logistics & Banquet Manager" and it was definitely an experience that cannot be gained inside the class.

Couldn't have made it without them.

At the end of the day, it was all worth it.

Bootcamp Session #3

So we did 3 circuit trainings today. The first circuit was ladder something where we had to run between each step knee high. Followed by crawling under the bar, hop over the bar, crawl again, hop again. Then frog kick, thruster, burpees, and star jump. First circuit lasted for 10 minutes. Haha...I got thrown to the other group as my current group was slow but I was a little faster than them :P

Second circuit was jack knife, push up, and something that I forgot. Each set repeat 4 times. The second set was 30 seconds longer because someone walked. However....I think I pissed my group off because I accidentally (note: accidentally) spitted out the water. Because of that, 20 burpees for everyone. Sorry everyone...

Last circuit was the best (imho). Chain sprint. Don't know how heavy was the chain but it was at least 2 meters long. Grab the end of the chain and just sprint all the way to the other end. Something like a relay. Could have done 3 times if we were a little faster :P

Bootcamp Session #2

Only the 2nd session of the month and it's already assessment day. Not a good day because it rained heavily before that and luckily the rain stopped before the session started. Yet, the field was too muddy.

1st assessment was basically running up and down for 5 times (1 time = run up and down), doing it for 4 sets. In between each set, we had to do crunches, push ups, and also squats. Each of these routine must do 20 times (unassisted) or 25 times (assisted).

2nd assessment was fairly easier since we only need to run 4 rounds (1 round = 200 metres). The only problem with it was we could not see where we running! The cones that they placed on the field was damn small -__________-

It was quite fun doing this assessment and from there, I can find out my fitness level. 7.02 minutes (assessment 1) and 5 minutes (assessment 2) was somewhat acceptable for me as I don't exercise regularly. Hopefully the remaining 10 sessions will help me cut down those timing.

Oh, and Khai Sim kicked some mud water to my face (and some went in to the mouth) during assessment 1. KNN! -_____-

First day of class wasn't that great. One of the lecture was basically the same as what I learnt the previous semester but thankfully, I didn't fell asleep.

Oh well, 2nd day of class continues and hopefully it will be a little better. Then it's D-DAY on Wednesday. Fingers crossed, everything will go according to plan (if I have one that is). 3 months of "slavery". This better be worth it.

Another year, another X'mas celebration.

Without you all around, it just doesn't feel the same as last year. It felt odd. You all are the missing links. I just wish we all could be together in the same place at this time of the year to catch up with our past 11 months and laugh at it, even if it's bad because that's what we do. JJ, MNG, IK, LCH, LY.

Nonetheless, the night went on with different group. Thank you so much for having us over on such short notice and even though we self-invited, you all didn't mind and even asked us to play games. I had a really good time. To the host, many many thanks. But I wished your other half was there.

This year's present hunting was really last minute and I was so desperate that I just grabbed what I think is fine. Oh well, I hope the kids will like it even though it isn't exactly 100% what they want. I will do anything to see them smile.

And to one of my dear good friend, thank you for listening/reading my rants and whatnot. After this morning's conversation with you, it made me think and I'm really sorry to disappoint you but I think it's just a "P". I know how much you want to see things work out and I truly appreciate it and thankful for having such a caring friend like you. It will definitely be a year of running 21km and 42km. Let's hope my knees don't need to go under the knife in between or at the end of the year.

It will be a year of new exciting project with my fellow course-mates. I regretted not doing it 2 years ago. Of course, it will be the final year project too, if possible.

It will also be a year of uncertainty. Well, I can't see the future, can I?

Last but not least, I will be a different person. Good or bad, it's for those who are around me to decide, not me.

Now I just need to start on my 2011 resolutions list.

The 21st celebration was rather much different than how others would have chose to celebrate. I wouldn't know how fun it would be if I had chosen the other way of celebrating but I'm not regretting at all.

No D-tag. Hence, I cannot find out the official timing and ranking. Sad.

Today's run is the final run of the year before resuming next year. The race course is quite hilly but I've seen worse. 1 hour 4 minutes (unofficial) was quite good considering the fact that I have not been training for the past 2 months. I really think I'm close to achieving sub-1 hour for 10km.

But, I'm quite disturbed when I heard a participant fainted and the ambulance sent him to the hospital. It always happens in all the runs I've participated. Jinx?

On a brighter note, a new member joined us today and I must admit, she isn't that bad for someone whose last run was 2 years back. Let's hope this isn't the last run for her, for good.

A 9am-5pm work is something I want next time if I want to train. Pray pray pray.

Oh well, next year's first run of the year is on 1.1.2011. 5km but I just want to have fun walking and light jog. I wonder who is up for it.

Tomorrow will be the greatest challenge of all. To run 10km in under 1 hour. Never tried this before but since I will be running 10km quite often, I'm going to need some challenge to push myself to run 10km without slacking. I've already tasted 25km and I want more of it.

Next year will be only half or full marathon, but more of half marathon to prepare for the full marathon.

Edit: I finished the run in 1 hour 2 minutes and 17 seconds! Satisfied.

Thank you for serving me well for the past few years. You have been exceptional. But, I have some doubts whether you could last the full 25km at one go.

I did 43.3km(total from two 10km event, one 11.4km, and one 12.3km) on a pair of Power shoes. Don't look down on Malaysian product.

However, my knee has been hurting recently whenever I run. Besides changing the running style, a good pair of shoe is important. Therefore, I splurge RM300 on a pair of New Balance.

Hopefully it is worth that price tag.

So far, 3 papers are done but I can say out that 3, I know I already screwed up 1 paper. 2 more left on the 25th and 28th of this month and then it's Industrial Training for 3 months.

I realize there isn't much time for myself. You know, just sit and do nothing?

After today's 3rd paper, I have one paper on 25th, Newton Run (25km) on 26th, last paper on 28th, and then Industrial Training for 3 good months.

I have yet to revise (not even touch the notes) for the last 2 paper and very under-prepared for the 25km run. Hopefully I will make it to the finishing line within the qualifying time. Pray for all of us will run on the 26th.

You are a PhD holder and also the deputy dean. But, why do you always do something that put students in a tough spot?

We have always tried our best to comply to your requirements.

You have 61 students, regardless they have withdrawn or not. You have clearly stated that each group must have a maximum of 3 students for the assignment. So, you only have 21 transcripts to mark, assuming everyone forms a group of 3.

Why can't you put some faith in us that we will meet your deadline for the assignment? We aren't talking about one or two groups that did not submit their assignment. It's 25 students! That's nearly 1/3 of your students. Come on! 1/3 of your class refuses to hand up a 15% worth of assignment? Only a fool will do that.

Please do not accuse us of something that does not make sense at all in the first place. We respect you as our lecturer and I believe we deserve some respect from you as well.

It's laminated! Anyhow, SCKLM 2011 will be my first full marathon. That is my aim.

On top of that, I just registered for Nike Run (10.10.10) for 10km. I have only around 2 weeks to rest after Newton Run which I predict will be really tiring. 25km mah. Fingers crossed, my knees can take it :)

Ramadan Bazaar & A.Suwito's "X'mas with Friends"

When I think of Ramadan Bazaar, the first thing comes to my mind is FOOD! Went to one of the Bazaar at SS6 and it was quite packed. Bought plenty of food with KS and Jack. However, some unhappy incident happened and it just killed my mood to have OD session and we all just left. Nevertheless, we got what we wanted, which was food!

7pm and we decided to invade YY's hse with all the food we bought and we managed to scare her brothers by chucking as much as we could to them. Not our typical dinner so, much food were wasted but it was definitely a fantastic Sunday morning for Jack's dog since we packed whatever leftover we had.

8.30pm departed to DUMC for a concert by Aubrey Suwito and his friends. A really really brilliant performance. Liked the way the x'mas songs were edited by him. Oh, Jaclyn Victor was superb. The highlight of the concert? Jaclyn, Juwita, and Russell sang together with Aubrey (piano) and his band. Of course, the crowd were amazing too.

Ended the night with one episode of Futurama Season 1 at YY's place before headed home.

One of the best night I had in my life :)

Shape & Men's Health 2010 12.3km

For the first time, I gave up after reaching the 6km mark and began to walk. I wasn't in the best condition to run as my stomach was continuously hurting (like a knife jabbing) as I ran past the 2km mark. In addition, my knees weren't able to hold on any longer as I kept on pushing myself to overcome the pain. Luckily I had TCC to accompany me all the way to the finishing line. Thanks a lot buddy!

Even though I could not finish the run within 1 hour and 15 minutes, I still had fun walking around Putrajaya and at the same time, I had the chance to look at the buildings and the landscape. Yet, I could not deny I was disappointed with myself. Already physically injured, I'm somewhat mentally traumatised as I have another half marathon in September. What if I could not even complete the run?

And congratulations to HJ for being so fired up to finish the run so fast! You did brilliantly! I salute you.

Few more days to go and I have yet to fully recover from both sickness and exhaustion. To make matters worse, I can feel a slight pain everytime I walk.

Orange Run

Participated in Orange Run 2010, my 3rd run of the year. Woke up as early as 5am and by the time I reached The Curve, there was no one! But luckily people started coming after 30 minutes. As usual, there were many runners.

The course was quite difficult for me. Many uphill slopes and of course, a fair share of downhill slopes. Plenty of markers along the course, especially the distance markers. It helped me alot to somewhat control my pace and reserve some energy for the last 1km push. Both the PDRM and volunteers were helpful and guided both the traffic and runners well. Not forgetting, there were two drinking stations.

I managed to finish 11km in 1 hour 3 minutes and 6 seconds. It's unofficial. Heh.

Overall, it is a GREAT run and well done to the organiser! I will be back for Orange Run 2011!

SCKLM 2010

So I went for the SCKLM 2010. I was quite worried if I could finish the run due to some nagging pain at my left thigh muscles. I wasn't sure what caused it but the pain just wouldn't go away for weeks!

Anyhow, I did the 10km run. Half marathon can wait because I really need to buck up and train hard. Did 10km in about 1 hour and 11 minutes. Just 10 or 11 minutes slower than my first run, Energizer Night Run. This time, our running party grew bigger with additional 4 runners.

I was expecting a goodies bag (who wouldn't?) after paying RM45 for this run. But all I got was a finisher medal, some heat rub (expiring end of July), one piece of 30% voucher New Balance (30 days validity), and a certificate (with name and official time). That's quite ridiculous. Even the running vest quality was not good at all. Heard complains of logo on the vest falling off.

In short, we were late, 5-10 minutes. Bump into KS, who wore the medal for me. Thanks! Took some group pictures with the UTAR flag. Went to McD for breakfast. Stayed at friend's house till late evening. A good Sunday.

All in all, it was another great experience to be able to run around the city centre.

Next up. Men's Health Night Run. 12.3km this time. Hopefully the injury doesn't come back, again.
